About Lisa Brill, Founder of Qet Botanicals

When Lisa Brill was in her mid-30s, she began to experience a host of seemingly unrelated symptoms. She was losing her hair and eyebrows, had weeks of fevers coming and going, experienced weird weight fluctuations as well as rashes on her body that would come and go, and bouts of extreme weakness, which ultimately turned to skin upset on her neck, behind her ears, and on her face.

After seeing several health care practitioners, she learned that she had thyroid issues, autoimmune issues, various skin sensitivities, eczema, and rosacea. Symptoms had gone on for most of her 30s and into her 40s. She had had enough of the oral and topical meds and wanted to get off the prescriptions.

Out of sheer frustration, she took her love for natural care and dove deeper into even more natural and authentic preparations to help calm what was happening inside and outside her body. In April 2013, she started sharing her treatments and personal care products when she launched Qēt Botanicals (pronounced “keet”). Lisa is passionate about the quality of her products and is very selective about the products they use and what they avoid in their skin treatments.

Why the name Qet Botanicals?

It was her husband’s idea. He saw Lisa formulating everything from scratch over long periods ~ researching, testing, and developing her own formulations. He said… “You should make up your own name for your products since you’re making your own formulas.” Bing! Yes! After many failed names presented to their trademark attorney, they did just that. It’s an entirely made-up name… that they made with a sexy and curvy Q at the start, and it’s succinct without any added fluff or extras, just like their formulas. They added a vowel and a consonant to the first letter until it looked and sounded right. And there you have it. It’s their own trademarked name with the US Patent & Trademark office.

They have two skin studios, where they develop, formulate, fulfill and ship small, fresh batches directly from their private facilities to their customer’s mailboxes.

We talked about:

  • Connecting the dots between what’s happening on the inside of the body and its impact on how our skin looks on the outside
  • The lack of transparency in the skincare industry, including product labels that are misleading
  • Qet’s mission to create products that only contain ingredients that are beneficial to the body
  • The ABCs of skincare – antioxidants, botanicals, ceramides
  • Why Qet’s all-natural deodorant comes in a pot and not in an underarm stick or roll-on
  • What the shelf-life of your skincare products should tell you about the quality of your skincare products
  • Why Qet doesn’t add water to their cosmetics ~ because water is the #1 bacteria breeder in cosmetics
  • The types of natural preservatives Qet uses in their products and why
  • Why Qet does not use citrus, silicone, or traditional hyaluronic acid in their products ~ and what they use instead
  • Targeted treatments for various skin and hair conditions ~ it’s less about a targeted treatment and more about restoring the condition of the skin and hair
  • Why Qet calls themselves the “2-drop shop” ~ it has something to do with the quality of their products
  • The 2-minute skincare ritual ~ washing, exfoliating, toning, serum & how each of these steps supports healthy, beautiful skin
  • How our negative thoughts can negatively impact our health
